PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari would not be swayed from his avowed fight against graft and ensure that corrupt government officials, past and present, are brought to justice.
This was disclosed on Monday, August 10, 2015, when Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, stated that the recent visits of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo would not interfere with the Federal Government’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.
Shehu said, “The meeting between former Presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan with President Buhari were private and confidential. The President can call them for advice. But it will be unfair for anybody to feel or say it was to stop the war against corruption. The war will continue to go on.”
His statement followed insinuations that the former Presidents, who called at the Presidential Villa on Thursday and Friday, respectively under much secrecy, were meant to give them a soft landing in Buhari’s efforts to clean up the rot in the country’s institutions and recover stolen state funds.
